There is no special libmaodbc available for my system (OepnSUSE 42.1 64bit rpm
Linux). I use MyODBC-unixODBC instead. Compiled nothing here by myself.

MariaDB 10.0.27-12.1
UnixODBC 2.3.1-3.2
So there must be something special with your installed ODBC-configuration.
