I can't reproduce this behaviour exactly. Interestingly, if I enter "sS sS" in
the editing area, the editing area changes the text to "SS sS", but in the cell
there appears "sS sS" correctly. Maybe this depends on some locale option ...

Could this be the result of some auto-correct function, like "Capitalize first
letter of every sentence"? It looks like.
