This problem is likely due to the order of installation. Given that it is not reproducible for all users seems to make it an environment issue. I have not tired this theory myself. Java 7 is installed in a new directory on windows, along these lines: c: program files/ java/ jre7 ....... I suspect that Open Office, Libra Office, Oracle Open Office, etc, if already installed, is still looking in c: program files / java /jre6 for the Java binaries. Possible user fixes: 1) change settings in office to point to the new correct location. 2) uninstall office and reinstall office should be able to check and handle the installed location of Java. If that is indeed the issue.
