The problem arose (at least in my original case, on Win7/64) precisely because when you call up Java options and point LibO to the new Java7 directory (which *is* recognized at this stage, and presented as a radio button selection option), LibO will state at the first Java-requiring occasion that no JRE exists, or that it is corrupted. If you then point LibO back to the old JRE6 & restart it, everything works as it should.
