Upon further reflection, I think the issue boils down to the fact that
Format->Default Formatting
does not control subsequently-typed text. In other words, it can only be used
to remove overrides from existing text (which must be selected before doing
Format->D.F.)
This seems unintuitive, particularly because Format->Default Formatting appears
active (i.e. not greyed out) even if no text is selected.
So I wonder if Format-Default Formatting should enter a mode in which
newly-typed text uses the Default format, ignoring any overrides on preceding
characters. Or some other mechanism with similar effect. I'd be interested to
hear thoughts from those of you who use Draw regularly.
