I'm pretty sure that ultimately the instability is caused by a RuntimeException
being thrown at vcl/source/gdi/virdev.cxx around line 150, which is in turn
caused by CreateCompatibleDC(...) in WinSalInstance::CreateVirtualDevice(...)
returning a null DC pointer.
