I reproduced the 'bad allocation' error on Win 7 x86 without OpenGL enabled.
Steps:
1. Install 1000 fonts ( search 'big font pack' in Google )
2. Open attachment 128750 from bug 103927
3. Select cell D18
4. Scroll down and up in the font droplist using the mouse wheel
