Well, I know I want it on the version I want to share, but not on my master or

Again, maybe I'm not being clear. What is the advantage to compressing and
resizing at insert time, rather they save time? 

I have no issue with setting sane defaults for compressing and
resizing(especially if they can be turned off). For example, let’s say my
system is set to 96 dpi. I create a new document without thinking about this.
Insert time change, will not be recoverable. I will have to start from scratch.
However, if this is handled at save time, I can change the document settings
and no data will be lost as long a I remember before saving.
