For the test, could you try the different renderings?
1) gtk
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk && soffice --writer
2) gtk3
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 && soffice --writer
3) kde
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde4 && soffice --writer
4) generic
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen && soffice --writer
