I tried the suggested Menu/Help/Restart in safe mode and was able to reproduce
the problem.
Interestingly Calc hangs while the file navigator/selection screen is open but
only when I attempt to select 'Desktop'. The hang occurs before the Desktop
file list is displayed. Images located in other directories are successfully
selected and inserted as expected.
Attached is a sample from Activity Monitor if it's of any help.
