The image type should not be a factor as the hang occurs when Desktop is
specified as the source of the image (no image has been selected). The hang
prevents the Desktop file list from displaying, leaving that portion of the
window blank with a spinning ball in it. As indicated, this only happens when
I try to select Desktop other directories work just fine (so now I learned not
to use Desktop for this purpose...)
