Hmm, actually one of the recent comments in that Launchpad report is:
LibreOffice Base works fine on Xenial i386 with last test kernel:
~$ uname -a
Linux WS 4.4.0-112-generic #135~lp16909772Revert88a1685 SMP Tue Mar 6 08:40:12
UTC 2018 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux
Unfortunately it doesn't seem like that change is yet in mainline Ubuntu.
