I would love the solution of having an additional "properties" deck (it's what
I had in mind too).
The following functions could be part of that deck:
* cell background
* border line (type, width, color)
* merge cells / split cells
* insert/add columnt/row
The "tabbed toolbar" in desktop LibreOffice has a good selection of functions a
user "expects".
