Switching the design mode off, the change from '*' or '?' is automatic to '%'
or '_' and vice versa.

I can understand, do not like how it works, but as it is explained in the help,
this is by design, so can not be considerer as a bug.

A new request for enhancement, could be the best way.

But only '%' and '_' are acceptable in SQL, so I can see only one solution, use
the SQL wildcard in all modes.
