If by "update the English dictionary" is meant "add to it words that it does not have but which I use so much that I want to add them in order to keep the spellchecker from flagging them," the answer is yes (but I have been doing that for years when checking the spelling of texts and only in the last year or so has the spellchecker failed to catch two spaces where I should have typed one).
