As you haven't done that then my guess that your issue might be related to the other bug I pointed to was a dud steer. Just adding new words to the speller of your own bat should not generate this kind of problem. In any case for English language I tested your issue in LibreOffice Still 7.1.6 and LibreOffice Fresh 7.2.1 and if I've setup "English Sentence Checking" properly (I have) it finds 2 or more consecutive spaces just fine.
