Bug ID: 147491
Summary: Feature request: Keep encryption if Calc (or Exel)
file is saved with 'Save as'
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 7.2.5.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
If you have an encrypted Calc (or Excel) file and save it in Calc's .ods file
format, the encryption is not kept automatically.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a calc file that is encrypted or use one that is already encrypted
2. Save file as in the in the drop down menu or with keyboard shortcut
3. Select any name and press enter. The file is no longer encrypted
Actual Results:
The encryption is 'removed'/the file is saved without encryption as default
(not really if you pay close attention. More on this in "Other Information")
Expected Results:
1) The encryption should never be removed automatically removed unnoticed (even
in case of user error). This kinda is the case and is kinda not the case.
2) The option to save with a password should be auto checked if you encrypt a
file
3) If the password encryption is removed, it should warn you
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: No
Additional Info:
I discovered this when I saved an Excel file from work that was encrypted with
a password in the .ods format. I just saved it and after I reopened the file, I
wondered that the encryption was not kept.
Click the 'Save with password' box! I mean duhhh, right? I was a sloppy mistake
of mine that has no consequence at all. However, file are usually not encrypted
for fun, but for a purpose.
So if an encrypted file is saved with 'save as', the option to save the file
with a password should be ticked automatically. If the box is unchecked it
should tell you that you are going to save an encrypted
file as clear file and everyone will be able to read it. You should have a
'never ask again' option for people who deal with encrypted files a lot.
For companies it would be an interesting setting if you could prohibit a user
to save an encrypted file as unencrypted one.
