If you already have a device, replacing the software with a mostly-free system is better than continuing to use it in its "factory" state, but it's important to understand when it's not an alternative to a fully-free system. Cyanogenmod often requires proprietary blobs. Here is Kindle (some versions), for example, which mentions the extraction of proprietary blobs: https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Build_for_otter Replicant unfortunately can't support many devices (because those blobs are needed), but if you can find one of them, then you should be in a good spot: http://www.replicant.us/supported-devices.php - -- Mike Gerwitz Free Software Hacker | GNU Maintainer http://mikegerwitz.com FSF Member #5804 | GPG Key ID: 0x8EE30EAB -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJWZDV6AAoJEPIruBWO4w6rfNkP/RrnbIMYclPr1cgt4FuAeQF0 rrXbCI39Ww/9k+pl07j1qa6JcqSatXD525zkxEG5mhBn9MT1Vs9DQKdD6D2vhxZ7 EK7yle8XrfiFh92X8v5emEB4YIJIb6vhUPAZxP1hfYsHYYg+ElqPpv4BjEeVVU2m f2FKzfpsLsbRosTc/w1bGtyUMGwDHG6Ve2AjQ8qbj/NeEHLnLzkXHPEOHesew2aP qLRQYmmD/P9WYTkZ6hraU29y44kYMmet7mcO6JZT5ra0IWto51RzVzLQUWI6nj7P AOowWna/cda93rSmRKl4JL8Wd16h2RCoKSRTTU2H8bPuAlXgDCv2Vq0P9WiJqwY7 FCZuQDIi0SYtmhCh2fYKpySLsQLHQhMVnMwkN0U+4OWXPlRVV2tUAfCfjfMnEXvo lpJ0xEjiP1RejaFkMrmuxMWZiByPAFyEHF/jxuYPs3j/Bp2szRnChYiWdZc3PsTF JnK0r7Ybwm7cBKOVQUz710KQ1ieD56WPGJgX8045Nd2nfZPFA/MErt9V0gWMACMc 3wXf/gnJIl4LDHuu7iVf0ZK4hETiYJmjCZjmJ9FzIgFOlS7FYP9hfOVhmRFyl6DW Pppkf6ioGCSBrxbsqL3U6q7WNkWXXv6Guq1F3PdbKCVA9AN3GmlmefbMoWq04tQk 1jvaVu5mkhUH83Ky9iB/ =udvx -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
