Subject: Re: Car adapter for L50

A friend of mine made one for me (and it works, which is a real plus) for
under $7 in parts and only a little solder time.

I picked up the cigarette lighter adapter (one that accepts fuses) and a box
of 2A fuses at Radio Shack for about $5.00 total. I picked up the 3mm
connector (for the computer side) at a Ham show in Orlando for less than
$1.00. The cable is just speaker wire that I picked up at the Ham show.

I'm happy with my little adapter. I'd take that risk again. It was fun.
Every time I see the $90 Targus adapter at CompUSA, I get a warm feeling
inside.

However, if you want to use the same adapter for multiple notebooks
(differing load requirements and different computer-side connectors) then
one of these versatile adapters might be worth the big price. For me, I
only want to use it for my L50 so I'm happy with a connector that just works
with one computer.
