Subject: Re: VCDs on a 50CT

Before I got my desktop, I used Xing. Back then years ago, Windows Media
Player (Active Movie as it was called back then) performed worse than Xing
across the board.
Don't know if they've fixed it in the latest versions, nor can
test it anymore since I've got a fast 400Mhz desktop, but probably not given
how much it has bloated over the years.
Xing had the advantage of having many more user controls to
adjust performance and audio quality to let you play on slow
machines.

(which reminds me, if you use Xing, set it to Performance mode,
and cut the audio down to mono AM/FM mode. In full screen mode
at lower bit depths, that helps a lot.)

Also, ever since getting the Creative Labs DVD DXR2 HW decoder
that'll do DVD/VCDs in the PCI HW board, I never have to worry
or think about performance issues at all - 60fps rock solid
at any resolution and bitdepth to 1024x768 32-bits.

Then again, you can't get that in a Libretto....

d =)

Another idea, if you've got the time, is to convert to a low-bitrate optimized
format, such as RealVideo. That way, you can save lots of space (RealVideo
formats in low-bitrates are much, much smaller than MPEG/VCD format) and be
able to playback the videos on your Libretto w/o too much trouble.

Of course, it's free: www.real.com -> realproducer basic.
