If you have a desktop machine, I would recommend using it to do the preliminary
stuff as in steps 2 thru 5 below. You wouldn't need to use mobile racks as I did
since I already have them for my tower hdd's. However, those 2.5 to 3.5 adapters
really come in handy.

The install goes so much faster from the hdd... and saves having to figure out how
to get the CD to work first (lazy here!). I just leave all this on the last partition
as
installing other hardware/software can then access it when it needs the "Win98"
folder.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

This is how I installed W98 SE on a new 6gb hdd for my Libby (100):

1) Before I ever started, I discovered the boot floppy for W98se could fdisk, but
not format (huh??), so copied the dos format command from my tower W98se to the
floppy disk.... which fixed that.

2) Then I copied W98se and all the Toshiba drivers/apps needed for the Libby to my
tower hdd.

3) Since I have two removable mobile hdd racks on my tower, I went to
http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/showproduct.asp?category=15&subcategory=61
and bought their 2.5 to 3.5 hdd adapter and used it to connect the 6gb in one of the
mobile racks.

4) Using the W98se boot disk and the 6gb in the primary slot of the tower, I fdisked
and formatted the new drive, partitioning it with a 650mb as the last partition.

5) Putting my tower hdd back as primary and the 6gb as secondary, I copied W98se
and all the Toshiba drivers/apps to the last partition from the tower, including all
the
programs I wanted to install later - each in their properly named folder.

6) Switching the 6gb back into the Libby, I then booted up with the W98se boot
disk in the floppy drive (the bios has the drivers to run it).

7) Installed W98se - custom install - and when it reached the part for the Plug and
Play
Monitor, I unchecked ALL on the list given of places to look and clicked on next...

8) When finished with the W98se install, updated the video drivers (W98se sound
drivers are ONE year newer than the ones on the Toshiba site, so left this alone).

9) Installed the "L100ctrl" controls

10) Installed the Accessories package, L100acsy.exe

11) Updated the Power Save

12) Disabled hibernation and standby according to directions found on the Toshiba
Technical Support site entitled
"Win98/98SE Hibernation/Standby Features not Supported on Libretto 100CT" since
I don't use those and don't want my hdd overwritten.

Am updating other things as I go - and find I have a need for them.

One of the cleanest and easiest W98se installs I've ever done....
now to try Linux.... again... sigh
