I would suggest Neil, I am sure given enough time he could fix it. He has a 
blow torch that will fix anything from a Lib to a 4" leaking pipe. 

Seriously, in the previous cases of this type of failure, (2 or 3  plus 
years) I do not recall anyone salvaging the failed motherboard.
