Well, I don't think I would use W2K alone on my P75... I dualboot, my other
OS is W95B. I tried W98, but the mouse click hang and the silliness of
suspend/start/suspend bothered me so much that I found going back to a
stable & fast W95B much more preferrable. I don't really miss any of the gui
improvements.
That said, my installing W2K does urge me to overclock. I am contemplating
it seriously, I just have to find the time and tranquility needed to bust
open my beloved L50 and solder... :-\ Even though I was a pro at this I
don't really like taking the chance. :-)
In W2K the mouse responds like expected, no hanging on clicks or sudden
slowdown. Boot up takes a minute and a half I think, I seem to remember
timing it. It doesn't seem slow at some things, fast in others, more like a
leisureness over the whole system. I havn't installed any of my usual
programs, I have just a full W2K Pro installed, I have used IE and OE. IE is
slow, OE is usable. I haven't tried turning the graphics off in IE, that
should speed things up a bit. Networking (NIC + 56K modem card) gives me
normal throughput.
My main gripe is the videocard. I have tried all the drivers I've found,
next step is basically trying to change ini files to force it to some or
other driver. I just have a basic 640x480 16 colours.
Good luck!
br
Franklin
