Subject: Semi-OT: Libretto 50 and wireless networking cards

I'm currently comparing two sets of wireless network cards for use between my L50 and
an IBM ThinkPad.

I've got a pair of WebGear AviatorPro's and a pair of Proxim Symphony cards.

I'd like to use them for file/print sharing and to share my cable modem.

Here's where it goes off-topic: From what I've read, the Proxim cards are intended to
be used to share an analog modem, but not a cable modem. Proxim, not surprisingly,
sells an "ethernet bridge" which handles this, which you just plug into your hub (but
it lists for $399!)

I tried using WinRoute Lite to handle the cable modem sharing, hoping it might open
the door to a solution. However, WinRoute can't see my other network card while my
Symphony card is running (suspicious).

It is worthy of note that the Symphony cards are physically superb. Each card's flat
antenna protrudes less than an inch outside of my L50 (nice!) while the antenna and
body of the Aviator cards protrude well over an inch (and then the flat antenna
unfolds to an obtuse angle (just over 90 degrees). It's huge compared with the
Symphony's antenna, so I'd like to get the Symphony cards to share my cable modem.

Plus, the initial software setup of the Symphony cards is much easier than that of the
Aviators.

Anyone have experience with the Symphony cards that might help?

Now, about the Aviators. As I said above, the cards are huge compared with the
Symphony cards. Plus, the software comes across as more primitive (user
interface-wise). However, the documentation clearly states that they can share a cable
modem (and I don't doubt it). Also, the card has caused two thermal shutdowns in my
L50 today (I believe I was messing with network drivers both times, so that might have
just made it hyperactive, but I'm not sure).

Anyone have experience with AviatorPro cards? Or with their Aviator 2.4 predecessor?

TIA,

-e.
