Date: Tue, 5 Dec 2000 13:13:31 +0700 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: FUBAR 2 - aliens (or suspend-to-disk) trashed my data For the first time since HDD replacement, my L110 battery ran low enough to invoke an automatic suspend-to-disk (which appeared to complete normally). When I re-booted on mains power, Win'98 immediately reported HDD problems and ran ScanDisk. Once this was completed, a stack of my data had been trashed. The HDD is fairly full but defragged regularly; the lost data was all recent stuff. ScanDisk was run in 'thorough' mode prior to the last defrag and reported no errors. I've sorted out the resulting mess and have made sure to avoid any further suspend-to-disk attempts - no problems since. I used suspend-to-disk a lot on this machine before the HDD was replaced - no problems then, either. My questions are: - 1 - Is this possibly/probably a result of TeleDynamics (who replaced the HDD under warranty) not setting up the new HDD correctly? - 2 - How can I check that the HDD/suspend-to-disk 'space' is - or is not - set up correctly? FWIW the "properties" for C: reports 4,318,003,200 bytes / 4.02GB - 3 - How can I "switch off" all possibilities of suspend-to-disk? 1kTIA...
