Subject: FUBAR 2 - L110 20Gb HDD / Win'2k question
Having re-assessed my opinion of TeleDynamics in general, and in particular
their "warnings" of Libretto/HDD>6.4Gb incompatibility, I'm again
considering a 20Gb HDD for my L110.
Here in Thailand the following brands are available in 20Gb/9mm:-
- Fujitsu
- Hitachi
- IBM
- Toshiba
Prices are similar, Fujitsu the most expensive; I'm being told the Hitachi
is actually made by IBM.
My first three questions are:-
- 1 -
Is anyone aware of any problems with any of the above?
- 2 -
Is anyone on the list already running one of these drives in an L110 with
Win'2k?
- 3 -
Does anyone know if the IBM badged Hitachi differs from the IBM badged IBM
apart from the label?
I've found a retailer who will copy data (ie CDs - I'm thinking Win'2K) to a
drive for me if I purchase one; can I set up the new drive and install
Win'2K entirely from there? I do *NOT* have a bootable CD drive (or access
to the inside of a desktop or other resources beyond a Swiss army penknife)
and can only access a CD drive via the local internet cafe (I *DO* have an
Xircom ethernet/modem card!).
My fourth question is:-
- 4 -
I have a free choice of operating systems - is Win'2k my best bet? I
appreciate this is a very "open" question but I'm asking in the context of a
20Gb HDD in an L110 and looking for the best, most predictable, most
reliable - and, ideally, simplest - solution to the various
(BIOS/suspend-to-disk setup/whatever other) issues this combination raises.
1kTIA... Steve
