I do have partition Magic 5.0, but nowhere in the program installed to my
HDD, or in the program on the boot floppies, do I see any reference to
formatting the MBR, or anything that can straighten it out.
I installed the bad drive as master on the secondary IDE cable, and booted
from the PM boot floppy, but got a message at boot about a "scondary master
hard disk failure". Hitting F1 to continue, and booting PM from the floppy,
the PM program saw no other HDD than the primary master.
The problem is that the MBR on the bad drive is not just messy... it was
messy for weeks after executing "FDISK /MBR" to clear out the virus. But
when I set the jumpers on the drive to slave from master, and tried to swap
the slave in the system to master to install a new copy of W98, I think the
MBR in the HDD with the virus was just blopwn to bits... to the point where
it's not even recognized. No configuration I've been able to set the drive
up for seems to get the drive recognized by anything.
Matt
