I did realize I had halfway talked myself into fixing a Libretto before I
realized it was a desktop PC. nevertheless, the tips still come in handy for
either user, with the exception regarding the HD spacers.

Loose RAM simms can cause the problem.

Maybe try removing everything, borrowing a working video card, and testing
with just that and the floppy drive connected to help limit the problem area
faster?

If that all doesn't work, maybe time for a complete MB/RAM/CPU upgrade?
After all, with the AMD K7 1Ghz going for $180ish (www.thechipmerchant.com,
well cheaper than the silly $500+ Intel is charging for their PIII 1Ghz), a MB
going for $100ish, and 128MB of RAM for $50ish, there's always the rich man's
fallback for fixing problematic PCs - just buy another.

Naturally, if you're spending lots and lots of time on trying to figure out
the current one, it may not be cost effective either. All the time you've
spent on fixing an older PC, that won't necessarily give you total piece of
mind afterwards since something else may fail/still be broken, etc., may all add
up to wasted energy on a dying PC.

Just somethign to consider -- lots of people don't realize that it can be
just as expensive Not spending any money to fix a PC in terms of spent time,
fixes, and unknown reliability on the old one.

  D =)
