Oh yes, another solution presented from the Arizona Bureau.

I have a program which looks for its data on a CD. I copied the CD to a
directory. Then, in autoexec.bat I have:

subst o: c:\data\that-cd

Then, once Windows has started, the O: drive is the stuff in c:\data\that-cd
so I went into the program's .INI file and modified the cd=d: line to cd=o:

That did it.
