Eugene,

thanks for confirming the procedure... I suppose you had to use some
sort of BIOS extension such as the IBM drive manager to see the second
partition... 

The big question remains -- can LILO boot Linux off a partition that
the BIOS cannot see?!?  Anyone... Bueler?
