Mandrake 7.1 on the Lib...but you're right - the culprits are /var/log/news
and /var/log/mail - the *directory* entries were 2.2M and 3.4M each, and
'ls' took nearly 30 minutes just thinking about it before it listed the
contents.
There are too many files for rm * to kill :( so I've been through it a bit
at a time and erased the directories (hey, it only took a couple of hours!)
Now syslog complains it can't find the files on startup, let's see what
happens!
Is there a known problem with the logrotate of that vintage? I was just
about to have a look at the config file and see if that made any sense to
me. (Probably it doesn't)
