Subject: PCMCIA DVD-ROM Drives
Has anyone had any experiences with a PCMCIA DVD-ROM drive on an L100
(or L110). I'm playing around with the Archos MiniDVD at the moment (cardbus
version) and I'm having a few problems getting it to work consistently. There
are
no new drivers on the Archos web site and Toshiba doesn't appear to have
any new PCMCIA/cardbus drivers on their site (unless anyone knows differently).
I'm running Win98 (first edition) by the way. Every so often my machine crashes
(often when I change disks) and I get problems with it if I try booting with it
in.
Sometimes these problems make the drive unworkable (constant crashes)
untill I reinstall the drivers, at which point they go away for a bit. So any
advice,
new drivers anyone? If I can't get it working properly I'll take it back, so
does
anyone else have any recomendations for a different model (especially one
that doesn't require an additional connection through the mouse/keyboard
port on the replicator )?
Obviously, my L100 isn't much good for movie playback. Does overclocking
it improve things or am I really going to have to invest in a decoder card. The
only one I've seen is the Margi on. Does anyone have any experience of
this? Is it worth getting the dongle for TV output (I live in the UK, so will
the
dongle do PAL output - what sort of output does it give?)
Any help would be most appreciated.
Cheers,
Phil Spencer.
