Wrote the guy directly as well.

Basically, you should use the IBM Disk Manager provided for free off
www.storage.ibm.com -> HDs -> support.

Install the HD, install DM, and install OS, apps, and drivers.

Some people have probably managed to work around the BIOS thing using an OS
that understands and reads the actual drive geometry directly (eg. Linux,
probably Win2K). However, for the rest of us, usually, we'll have to use a DM
to get it to run correctly.

The use of Partition Magic on the HD in a desktop has also been heard to
'work', but the problem that you'll likely see here is that the hibernation
partition area has not been located correctly (only the Libretto knows, the
desktop has no idea), and as a result, the end of the first 8GB will be
overwritten by hibernation data during hibernation, not at the end of the 20GB
as it should correctly be placed (assuming the BIOS can see all 20GB w/o help,
which it can't).

Beyond that, only the Toshiba HDs have had the CSEL vs. Master/Slave jumper
settings problem ASIK. A quick search of the mailing list archives would bring
up anything I've forgotten, as well as others who have done this.

Oh, and my FAQ probably has a few more tidbits I've fogotten to mention already
- I'll update it today to say the L100/110 also needs the DM program in most
cases (seems one guy tested it and found the 8GB area got overwritten; guess
only the very latest L1100 or higher series will handle >8GB HDs correctly).

Luck!
There have been a few users with >20GB HDs running.
d =)
