Roger,
AFAIK there's nothing to turn off the LED, though I do seem to remember some
utility to control the LEDs directly...unless you've loaded something like
that, it looks like the LED has died (or maybe the flexible cable has broken
a track, or a loose connector...). If everything else is fine, I wouldn't
worry :)
