Subject: RE: Linux on a 50CT (Mandrake) was 70CT bios question

Neil,

I keep reading your in your advices to otjer people that the SVGA driver
should be installed.
How would I know if that is the case with my RH 7.1 installation?
How do I check if a SVGA driver in installed??

Also, I have to check the Xserver version.

Some time ago I got a reply from I guy that has a working installation on a
similar libby:

Here's the mail:

As you probably know, in XFree86 3.x and earlier, there are multiple
versions of the X server for the various supported video chipsets. The
problem you are having often is the symptom of using an X server for a
different chipset than the one you have. In XFree86 4.x, there is a
single server with a variety of chipset-specific modules that can be
loaded at runtime, but the same possibility for a mismatch exists.

I have not recently upgraded my Libretto's Linux or X11, so I may not
be able to offer any more specific help, but I'll be happy to try if
you can fill in some of the details.

What versions (of Linux and X11) are you using?

I should also ask if you have only the original 16 MB of RAM, or if you
have added RAM to make the total 32 MB. In either case, what do you
see if you run the command
        cat /proc/meminfo
(before or after attempting to start X)?

With kind regards,
George
