Subject: L-110 Batteries

I have two dead sets of L110 high capacity batteries. I opened carefully
both battery plastic cases with a very sharp knife and I'm sure that I will
be able to close and seal them again. I found that each set has 6 Panasonic
Li-ion cells: each two cells are arranged in parallel and the three pairs
are arranged in series. I measured the voltage of each pair without cutting
any of the metallic welded bars that "wires" the cells. In the first battery
set I found 3.45 volts in the 1st and 3rd. pair and 0.54 volts in the
central pair. I presume that the central pair has one or booth cells dead
and that the other 4 cells are OK. In the second battery set I got around
0.5 volts in each of the three pair of cells. But I think that it is
difficult that all the 6 cells are dead. All the measurements were done
after some hours of charging. The first set reached 54% in the power
properties of the L-110. I did not test how long the charge lasts when in
use. The second set reached 3% and the L-110 does not work with it. Now I'm
in doubt on how to proceed. Is there any clever way to identify what are the
good cells, if any, without cutting all the cells "wiring" and test each
cell? Is it possible to test each cell? What is needed to do it? What else
can be done in order to have one good set from the two dead sets? Maybe some
of you have experienced some trial in refurbishing L-110 batteries. The
reason that I want to do it is that it is almost impossible to get new L-110
batteries in Brazil, where I live. If I buy it from other country (and it is
difficult to find who ships abroad by paying with International credit
cards), I'll be charged by the customs in additional 200% of the total price
(battery, shipment and insurance). It is a lot of money.

Thank for any help.

Lazar
