Grr ... I keep forgetting to say things don't I? >>Should I fork out for a new PC? >... > >If your budget doesn't go quite that far, the Satellite 30CT is also quite nice, Forgot to mention ... the best bit about the Satellite 30CDT compared to the Portege or Libretto lines is that its got an internal CD/FDD drive bay (not hot swappable unfortunately - when the FDD is out of the computer it hooks up to the parallel port but on a bike trip you're not likely to need that unless you wanna watch movies or something) plus it doesn't need a port replicator as it has audio, modem, network, parallel, USB (x2?), monitor and firewire ports on the sides and back of the case. No serial port though unfortunately. If you're likely to need any of these ports it'll mean you won't need to take around (and lose!) any dangling port replicators or whatnot. One down side however is that being a faster computer it IS more power hungry. Budget for more power usage than your Libby as far as charging goes, I'm pretty sure it has at least a 3.5AH LiIon pack compared to the 1.4(?) standard Libby pack. Having said that, without expansion cards or option drives, the 30CDT does actually get a good 3 hours off a charge (as opposed to a skimping, worried-about-starting-the-hard-drive, screen-dim-as-possible 3 hours). IIRC even a new Libby pack only gives you a good 1.5-2h runtime so viewed in that way its not THAT much more power hungry. If you don't plan on working more than 3 hours a night and/or if you plan on working really carefully and saving power then of course you can scale your charging requirements appropriately. - Raymond --- /~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\ | | "Does fuzzy logic tickle?" | | ___ | "My HDD has no reverse.
