Funnily enough, Sony did do a version of the Picturebook a while back
which didn't have the camera -- instead it came with a GPS unit, and was
called the C2GPS. It also didn't have a backlight, which was rather
odd considering reports that the screen was almost impossible to see
clearly, no matter what the lighting conditions[1].
And to correct a previous point, it does do 640x480 on anything after
the first generation C1s (I'm not sure what resolution they do, but the
CCD is a lower resolution one), both stills and video. It's pretty poor
quality though, especially in poorly-lit conditions. I have one and
never use it, even though I've had it working under Linux for over a
year now :)
I keep drooling over the Libretto L1, even if it is a bit bigger I think
that the higher resolution and larger screen than the older Librettos
will make it much more usable (sorry, but 640x480[2] is a pain
sometimes in X Windows... ;). I'm not sure how much smaller it is than
the Vaio Z505 I'm about to inherit when my girlfriend upgrades her
laptop on a trip to Hong Kong ;)
Dave 'you can never have too much hardware' :D
[1] I seem to remember hearing from someone, at some time :)
[2] I have a 50CT, I know the 100+ have a higher resolution screen but
not by much ;)
