An ISO image is a single file which contains *all* the data on the CD, including the directory structures and TOC and whathaveyou. When you copy an ISO, it's copied bit-for-bit instead of treating it as a file, so when the CD is read, all the file structures appear as normal. > >>From what Neil and people have been saying, I take it that there's some >advantage to booting from the Mandrake installation CD over just having the >installation files on the HDD, and running the installation from there. > >Wonder what that may be. Booting from the installation CD is easiest - it's how they expect you to do it so everything is set up that way. Stuffing the CD onto a dos partition and running with a floppy is quickest because the HD is the fastest data store on the system. If you really want to get exotic, you can download an ISO image, mount it as a loopback device, which lets you see the contents, copy the contents to the HD, and run an installation from there. Never need to see a CD :) > >Matt > > >_________________________________________________________________ >Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. >http://www.hotmail.com > > > > >************************************************************** >http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list >http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives >http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ > -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- >Reply to any of the list messages.
