What do you mean by "the real install"? Am I missing something here? Are
you saying that by not having your CD-ROM drive attached during the Win95
installation, it won't be configured by the Windows install. Or is there
something else that you won't be getting by installing from floppies?

The method Raymond described may be easier if you have one of those 2.5" to
3.5" HDD adapters.

Without that, here's what I'd do:

1. Boot the Lib from a bootable FDD with SYS.COM, HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE
on it. If you need to partition and format the HDD, incude FORMAT.COM and
FDISK.EXE. Tell us if you need help with the latter.

2. I'm not sure why sometimes I get away without this, but you may need to
create a CONFIG.TSH file on the FD with these two lines for upper memory
access during installation:

DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=EMM386.EXE NOEMS

3. Run "SYS C:" from your A:> prompt to copy system files to C:\, and then
"COPY CONFIG.TSH C:" TO copy CONFIG.TSH to C:

4. Change to your C: drive by typing "C:" and hitting Enter.

5. Run "RENAME CONFIG.TSH CONFIG.SYS", and then do a "MD WIN95" to create a
C:\win95 directory on your HDD.

6. Copy the contents of all the W95 floppies to that directory.

7. Make a C:\DRIVERS directory and copy the drivers for your CD-ROM and
Toshiba Libretto there

8. Remove the FDD, insert the CD-ROM card, reboot and then run setup.exe
from C:\win95.

9. When Windows finally boots to the desktop and asks for drivers, navigate
to the files you put in C:\DRIVERS.

Did I forget anything folks?

The advantage of having the Win95 installation files on the HDD is that you
won't have to fumble with inserting FDs or a Win95 CD the next time you
install a new piece of hardware.

Also, I THINK that if you dump the contents of each W95 FD to the same
C:\Win95 directory, you won't be asked for the next floppy each time,
whereas if you created a new subdir for each, you would.

Matt
