We're collectively know as the Libretterati. Some of us have strange habits of wearing
miniskirts at strange times (actually thats a point ... miniskirts haven't rated a
mention for a while! Slacking off are we, Pres? ;-).

SACRILEGE! THAT IS FORBIDDEN! YOU WILL BE BURNT AT THE STAKE! WEARING A MINISKIRT!
WITH A HAIRY LIGHTBULB STRAPPED TO YOUR HEAD! AND "UNSUBSCRIBBLE" TATTOOED ACROSS YOUR
BACK!
Of course, once you've passed the Libretterati initiation ceremony you're allowed to
;-)

OK bad move unless you know DAMN WELL that the external PCMCIA drive carrier treats
the hard drive like a NORMAL IDE hard drive. Even then its a bad idea unless you keep
in mind there is a hibernation region at the end of the hard drive. Safest way of
doing things is doing the partitioning and formatting in the libby (because for drives
smaller than 1024 cylinders it'll hide the hibernation region automatically) then, if
necessary, putting it into the drive carrier or another computer to do the rest of the
stuff. Note that if you've already partitioned the hard drive before you may need to
zero out the FAT then repartition or you may run into problems (I've got a debug
script flying around here that'll do that and that I'll dig up if you need it). The
procedure is different for a drive thats larger than 1024 cylinders (about 8.4 gig),
check the archives for details (including a number of my own rantings on the subject!).

Umm ... why not? Just set the active flag. Of course, it'll displace whatever
partition was active before ...

As long as you're not formatting/partitioning in another computer (or if you are, that
you've made sure the drive will be treated the same as in the libby, that you've left
space for the hibernation region and that if the drive is over 1024 cylinders that
you've installed EZ-Bios correctly) you should be fine. See the numerous writings on
the topic in the archives.

The L50 does a pretty good job of autodetecting stuff like that ...

Hope this helps!
