OK if you go start>(shutdown>)suspend yes the libby will suspend (ie. keep RAM powered 
but power down everything else). However, before it does that, it writes the info it 
needs in the event that it flips over to hibernation mode (everything powered down). 
That way, if it runs out of batteries during suspend or you remove the battery, it can 
still recover after taking X seconds to restore RAM but if power stays fine it'll 
power up instantly. A case of expecting the best, preparing for the worst. If only 
more laptops would do things this way ...

There are several essays out in the not-too-distant list archives regarding how to 
partition the drive so you won't end up with data being oblitherated ... its easier to 
do it from Linux FDISK (NOT Disk Druid) or Partition Magic but its still quite 
possible with Windows FDISK.
