There is a definite risk in all things :) However, provided that the spacers are properly removed - both the clear and the blue, I would (and have, frequently) use a default 9.5mm disk. The 6G I have is a Tosh MK6014MAP and the 20G is an IBM 20 GN Travelstar (IIRC - it's in the lib at present so I can't see the writing on the back!)
