My hi-cap battery expired some time ago and I've been on the lookout for a replacement ever since. I eventually found a component shop with a large repair facility attached in the Pantip Plaza computer mall, Bangkok. I'd established on a previous visit that they rebuild batteries; one morning last week I walked in unannounced - battery in hand, Libretto L110 in bum bag, wallet in pocket, and smile on face. Within five minutes one of their guys had checked out how the battery was being reported by the Power Meter utility (stuck on 3%) and pronounced it rebuildable. I was asked to leave it with them for an hour. An hour later I returned with the Libretto, and the rebuilt battery was waiting. It looked exactly as it had previously, but with three selotape bands securing it while the glue set. In it went, and for the first time in months, my Libretto booted without the mains supply. On went the external power, and presto - Power Meter said 3%... 4%... 5%... My instructions were to charge it fully, then run it right down, and repeat (ie cycle it fully, at least twice, before engaging in any partial cycling); which I did. As far as I'm able to determine to date, it's performing as new (at least - I understand it's now 2600mAh as opposed to the previous 2400mAh). Warranty: 30 days. Price (parts and labour): 4000 baht (approx. USD93 / GBP65 / EUR107) >From their business card: AMORN THE OLD SIAM ELECTRONIC SERVICE CENTER CO., LTD. 604/3 1 FL. Room 162,171 Pantip Plaza, Petchaburi Road, Rachatavee Bangkok The component shop is on the ground floor itself, right at the back, with the workshop on a mezzanine up a flight of stairs at one side. They appear busy, well organised, well stocked, and seem repair just about anything as well as selling used / reconditioned / repaired equipment. Hope this is of use to anyone else in, or passing through, Bangkok. ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
