IIRC the other cause of symptoms attributed to the 'memory effect' is overcharging of 
the batteries. This was *sometimes* slightly improved by fully cycling the battery 
packs hence the commonly bounced around 'cure' of memory effect being fully cycling 
the battery a few times.
