Yes - no problems.

Well I guess anything is possible.

But as I said - I tried everything (removing and replacing each component; 
installing the PCcard before booting, after booting; checking the status of 
the PCcard and HDD drivers; etc etc etc) and none of the partitions on the 
30GB HDD could be persuaded to come back.

The moment I swapped the drives over, ie put the 30GB HDD back in the 
Libretto and the 4.3GB HDD in the caddy, everything (caddy and both drives) 
worked perfectly (except of course for the file errors later found on the 
over-8GB partition copied to using Win'98).
