Hi All Well, I am coming to the party rather late as it were. Just bought a 50CT off yahoo auctions, and am already in awe of its power compared to my HP Jornada 680. My wife is already bored of me saying "it's a *real* pc!"... I've put a 10GB disc in it, and 32MB of RAM. I'm looking for your advice. (I've checked the archive and there's some good stuff in there but I can't find enough to make my mind up) My main uses are: - mail / contact / calendar management - storage for my digital camera - route finding - web browsing - perl script development - ASP web development So, what OS should I use? I am not keen on 95 due to its general ickyness and refusal to be a real OS. At home and at work I run Win2K professional which is fine on a 1.4GHz Athlon with 512MB memory... I run RedHat 7 on a P90 that is in my car for MP3 playing purposes so know that too. Rundown- Win2K: does what I want, but will run like a dog with one leg in 32MB. Win98: I'd rather not, but admit that it may be my best option (arghghghgggggh!) with PWS installed WinME: Nonononononoooooooooooooooooooooo I just won't, and besides I don't have a license. Linux/Mandrake8.1: Would run, but may be painful. Also, I'd have to run ChiliSoft / Apache to develop ASP which may be just as demanding resource-wise as Win2K. I could run Insight to connect to our corporate exchange server under Linux. Does anyone have any experience of this package? In short, would Mandrake 8.1 with KDE run acceptably on the 50CT or would I be better gritting my teeth and admitting that Win98 really is the OS for me. (Ouch) Ta, Nick. ************************************************************** http://libretto.basiclink.com - Libretto mailing list http://libretto.basiclink.com/archive - Archives http://www.picante.com/~gtaylor/portable/faq.html - FAQ -------TO UNSUBSCRIBE------- Reply to any of the list messages.
