As you can see, *everything* is in a different place, apart from the power 
and a couple of control pins. It looks like the cardbus spec multiplexes the 
data and address buses - that would tie in with PCI bus, IIRC.

As to knowing what the controller chip will do - that's plain logic: why 
would the manufacturers build in a capability for a system that didn't exist 
when it was designed, and if they did, why didn't Tosh put a cardbus type 
slot in?

Of course, the big giveaway is the bit in the spec sheet 
(http://www.abcsinc.com/small-linux/notes.htm) that says '8 and 16 bit card 
interface' <grin>
