Hi Neil, Thanks for that - had a look at Jonathon's fan utility (and installed win2000), but I've put the original Japanese OS back on, and come to the conclusion that it's not the software, but the hardware - basically the libretto is obviously either running very hot all the time, or it's reporting that it's running very hot all the time - regardless of OS (DOS, jap win98, win98 lite, win2000 etc). The fan comes on after a few seconds even in DOS, and when doing activities that would normally cause the fan to activate (large file transfers, ghosting etc), the libretto shuts down instead. There's a possibility of a warranty on this one, so I'm reluctant to pull it apart just yet, but does anyone know where the libretto would be getting it's temperature information from? - maybe the appropriate thermistor has slipped/broken? (The fan utility would turn the fan off for half a second, but would then be over-ridden by the BIOS and the fan would turn back on). Any help would be appreciated, because I don't really want to have to send this back to Japan, (having 128M of memory and a better screen is quite nice) but it's not much good to me at the moment. cheers, Simon >>Date: Tue, 9 Jul 2002 12:47:03 +1200 >>From: Simon Shuker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >>Subject: Re:libretto 1100 fan >> >>Hi all, >> >>Have tried a few things, but still no luck with getting the fan on my >>new 1100 to shut off while in Windows.
