David,
I'm wondering just how much of this assembly you took apart once you got the top and bottom shield plates off. It would seem that I should at least unplug the ribbon from the laser head and pull the 2-3 screws than hold in down against one side of the mechanism. If this Valvboline penetrating spray has any solvents in it, I wouldn't think the ribbon would be happy to get any mist from a nearby shower... 8-/
Matt ... Happy that he's taken a good deal of the assembly apart to inspect and put it back together several times, and the darned thing still works!

The Valvoline stuff, even though it puts out an odor that takes forever to
dissipate, works fine in my HP m820e. Just used the straw, dropped a few drops
over the rails, moved the heads back and forth by the gears a few times to get
total coverage, and that was it. Working fine ever since.
